Many Hoosier businesses reopening with uncertainty

But, they are beginning with basics, like deep cleaning, face masks, and social distancing, said Gerry Dick, with Inside Indiana Business.“There’s no playbook for reopening the economy in this circumstance. So, they’re going on basically a daily basis. The basics like deep cleaning and physical distancing. All those face masks and all those types of things are gonna be part of the reopening.”Dick said each business has its own set of uncertainties that they are taking as they come. The impact of the pandemic on all areas of business cannot be overstated, said Dick, pointing out that hotel occupancy in Indianapolis is around four percent, much lower than it should be with conventions that would normally be happening over the summer.“One hundred plus conventions and meetings have been canceled this year,” he said. But, Dick said VisitIndy, the organization that oversees the convention industry in Indy, has begun talking to some people in other cities who are not happy with the way their conventions are being reorganized, who are interested in moving them to Indiana.“So, actually a few conventions have expressed interest in coming here that weren’t before. But, that doesn’t mitigate this incredible impact on the Indiana economy.” Pinterest WhatsApp Previous articleFather, son killed in crash in Michigan CityNext articleIndiana casinos likely to remain closed until mid-June Network Indiana WhatsApp Facebook By Network Indiana – May 12, 2020 0 315 last_img read more

Baldwin, Eagles stay focused on ultimate goal despite first loss

first_img“They’re really tough. We played them last year and they took the first game from us. I don’t have any doubts about our players’ mentality. We understand the importance of being ready for the next game and that’s not gonna change,” he said.“We’ve set that template, we’ve adhered to it all year long. We’re not gonna stray from that now. FEU is an outstanding basketball team and they’re absolutely worthy semifinalists and we’re gonna have a tough game with them.” Read Next As much as Baldwin credited La Salle for the way the defending champs performed in the crucial stretch, he couldn’t help but call out the officials for how they handled the game late.Isaac Go and Chibueze Ikeh were both saddled by foul trouble while Vince Tolentino fouled out with still 2:05 left to play, the same stretch when La Salle made its killer 10-0 run.“I thought we played really well. I thought we put ourselves in a great position to win the game, but again, La Salle was still there. They’re a great team. And again, the lineups that we had to put out there were different lineups that we played through most of the season, and they weren’t as effective and as efficient and they’re never going to be,” he said.“So you know, if we get into a situation in a huge environment like that, referees choose to put quality players on the bench with very, very soft calls, that’s what they get. They get a game of lesser quality than what the fans should get or what the TV audience should get. Fans in the audience should’ve seen Ikeh and George out on the floor more than they did today, and I think that’s a shame that they weren’t.”Moving on, Baldwin shifted his focus on the Tamaraws, whom the Blue Eagles should not take lightly.ADVERTISEMENT “Things like sweeps and undefeated seasons are things you dream about, but you got to leave them behind pretty quick. Even if we win today, we got to leave it behind because the golden apple that we’re after is still in front of us.”Baldwin also said the loss did nothing to affect the psyche of his players heading into its Final Four date with Far Eastern University on Sunday.FEATURED STORIESSPORTSWATCH: Drones light up sky in final leg of SEA Games torch runSPORTSSEA Games: Philippines picks up 1st win in men’s water poloSPORTSMalditas save PH from shutout“They’re fine and they understand. We talked about it before the game. We talked about it at halftime. In fact, at halftime, I told them the way we played in the first half, I hope we lose because we didn’t deserve the win the way we were playing,” said Baldwin, whose team committed 15 turnovers in the first half.“I think we solved that problem in the the third quarter. We rediscovered who we were but then again, in the fourth quarter, you got to give credit to La Salle’s energy, effort, defensive changes, and our foul trouble. We just could not overcome that.” John Lloyd Cruz a dashing guest at Vhong Navarro’s wedding QC cops nab robbery gang leader, cohort Tab Baldwin. Photo by Tristan Tamayo/INQUIRER.netAteneo coach Tab Baldwin shrugged off his team’s failed bid to sweep the elimination phase of the UAAP Season 80 following a loss to La Salle on Sunday. “We need to put that in perspective. It would have been nice to have, but that’s it — it would have been nice. We still have to win the title. So now we just have a different route to try and do what we really wanna do,” Baldwin said after the Blue Eagles dropped a 79-76 decision to suffer their first setback of the season.ADVERTISEMENT Typhoon Kammuri accelerates, gains strength en route to PH LATEST STORIES Japan ex-PM Nakasone who boosted ties with US dies at 101 Stronger peso trims PH debt value to P7.9 trillioncenter_img CPP denies ‘Ka Diego’ arrest caused ‘mass panic’ among S. 10 People In Sports Media Who Lost Their Jobs For Controversial Comments

first_imgProvocateurs have proven to be very valuable in the current sports media landscape. Years ago, ESPN caught lightning in a bottle with shows like Pardon The Interruption and Around the Horn, the new next step in that direction, First Take, is basically the model for how rival FOX Sports 1, which is hiring away longtime co-host Skip Bayless, is building its daily programming. A show like First Take relies on big news-making declarations, and opinions that will get people riled up. Sometimes, on live television or a fast-paced medium like Twitter, personalities cross the line, and are punished. The most recent example is Emily Austen, a Tampa Bay Rays and Orlando Magic sideline reporter for FOX Sports Florida who will no longer be appearing on the network due to racist statements she made on a Barstool Sports Facebook Live show. She is far from the only sports personality to be given the axe for things they’ve said.In 2016, I made a bad decision and my life took an unexpected turn. Now, I’m passionate about helping others avoid making a similar mistake. pic.twitter.com/BlRsOAZFYR— Emily Austen (@emilyausten_) March 14, 2017Here are 10 of the most notorious examples of people in sports media who have been fired for the things they’ve said.Next: Get Started With Emily Austen >>>Pages: Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Page 4 Page 5 Page 6 Page 7 Page 8 Page 9 Page 10 Page 11last_img read more

Ganguly ready to quit cricket committee to avoid conflict

first_imgNew Delhi: Sourav Ganguly is willing to resign from the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after CEO Rahul Johri — on behalf of the board — asked ombudsman D.K. Jain to examine his dual role as member of CAC and Delhi Capitals advisor. Speaking to IANS, sources in the know of developments said that while the Cricket Association of Bengal president-cum-DC advisor is confident that he is not conflicted, even then, the former India skipper is willing to step down from the CAC which also has Sunrisers Hyderabad mentor V.V.S. Laxman and Mumbai Indians mentor Sachin Tendulkar as members. “Sourav last attended a CAC meeting during the appointment of Ravi Shastri as coach after the Champions Trophy in 2017. In fact, the committee has not even met in recent times and he is clear that if required, he will step down from the role to avoid any questions of conflict. Even though his stance remains unchanged that he is not conflicted in any way, he will meet the ombudsman and discuss the same,” the source said. Jain has asked Ganguly to depose before him on April 20 with regards to questions of conflict of interest raised against him by three complainants from West Bengal — Bhaswati Santua, Ranjit Seal and Abhijeet Mukherjee, who questioned how Ganguly as CAB chief was allowed to sit in the Delhi Capitals dug out during their match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. April 20 will also see DC clash against Kings XI Punjab at the Feroze Shah Kotla. Interestingly, while the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators have through Johri asked the ombudsman to check on any conflict, the letter from Johri also stated that Ganguly should be allowed to continue as DC advisor if he makes full disclosure due to his vast knowledge.last_img read more

Podcast We Tell John Starks Why He Was The JR Smith Of

Below, Neil Paine’s notes for the discussion about Starks. Neil Paine’s quick and dirty analysis of John Starks. Welcome to this week’s episode of Hot Takedown, our podcast where the hot sports takes of the week meet the numbers that prove them right or tear them down. On this week’s show (Aug. 11, 2015), we revisit the career of an NBA cult favorite. As we were preparing topics for the show, Kate Fagan mentioned that it was John Starks’s 50th birthday this week. Starks, one of Kate’s favorites growing up, spent eight years as a member of the New York Knicks (1990-98), where he developed a reputation for fiery play, dunked over Michael Jordan and went 2-for-18 from the field (and 0-for-10 in the fourth quarter) in Game 7 of the 1994 NBA Finals. To celebrate, we look back at his career and how modern analytics would judge him. Oh, also, John Starks calls in, and we tell him how he should feel about himself. Also this week, a look at how the Blue Jays may have become the best team in baseball, and our Significant Digit of the week: Petr Cech had a rough first game for Arsenal in the Premier League, performing three standard deviations below the league average.Stream the episode by clicking the play button, or subscribe using one of the podcast clients we’ve linked to above. More: Apple Podcasts | ESPN App | RSS One of the players most similar to Starks — both statistically and in Starks’s own mind — is former Knick (and current free agent) J.R. Smith. Starks passed more, and Smith is a more efficient shooter, but the two had similar rates of usage, steals and overall effectiveness. Hot Takedown And some things we learned researching his career through the lens of advanced stats:Starks was pretty good (nearly one standard deviation better than average) in four advanced statistical categories: usage rate, assist percentage, steal percentage and turnover percentage.Despite his self-professed defensive focus and participation in one of the most suffocating defenses ever, the metrics are inconclusive when it comes to Starks’s own defense. In Box Plus/Minus, he rates below average, while Jeremias Engelmann’s emulated plus/minus ratings from the ’90s consider him one of the decade’s better defensive guards. Starks was something of a trail-blazer for the 3-point shot, which has now taken over the game. When Starks was playing his best seasons, the average NBA player attempted a 3-pointer on roughly 11 percent of his shots, while Starks took a 3 on about 40 percent of his shots (a rate that ranked seventh among his contemporaries). Fast-forward to 2015, and 27 percent of all shots are 3-pointers. If you’re a fan of our podcasts, be sure to subscribe on Apple Podcasts and leave a rating/review. That helps spread the word to other listeners. And get in touch by email, on Twitter or in the comments. Tell us what you think, send us hot takes to discuss and tell us why we’re wrong.
